Deck Construction
Chris separated from the Air Force in June of 2001 and decided to take the summer off from work and job hunting. Tami had the summer off before she had to decide on a job for the fall, so we thought it would be a good time to build the deck we had been planning. Tami designed the deck, and after we had our building permit, we started to work. Tami and Chris did the construction, including pouring the concrete footers, all by themselves.

These images show the initial plan and the final result. The building process
took about 6 weeks, including time off for summer relaxation and the 4th of July holiday.

We had a big load of wood delivered from Home Depot and warmed up to building the deck by
building two gyms for our kids. We had the plans for these and they went together
very easily. It took one day to build the small gym and two days for the big
gym. We kept the wood covered with a tarp at all times to keep the wood from drying
out. Treated wood warps if it is allowed to dry and the twisted wood is hard to use,
if not useless, for construction.
